Index, Partner of the EUR ArTeC Research Project “Reality Check”

In 2024, Index became a partner of the Reality Check research project, supported by EUR ArTeC and led by Francesco Sebregondi, founder/director of Index. Reality Check explores the use of immersive media in contemporary investigative and verification practices. While immersive media are often associated with virtuality and fiction, the project questions their potential to help us better grasp reality and facts.

As part of this initiative, Index contributes through concrete investigative case studies involving immersive technologies — notably the investigations into the deaths of Jumaa Al-Hassan and Souheil El Khalfaoui — and develops specific tools based on the method of situated testimony, which the project analyzes in terms of its potential and limitations for reconstructing facts.

Index also takes part in the associated research seminar, whose first two sessions were held in fall 2024, featuring Nick Masterton (Forensic Architecture) in October and visual artist Nicolas Gourault in November.
