Death of Nahel M.: prosecutor calls for murder trial against the policeman responsible for the shooting

The Nanterre Prosecutor’s Office called for a murder trial on Tuesday, March 4, against the police officer responsible for the fatal shooting of Nahel M. This decision comes a year and a half after the incident and marks a crucial step in the quest for justice regarding the circumstances of his death.

On June 27, 2023, 17-year-old Nahel M. was killed by a close-range shot fired by a police officer who had stopped his vehicle. The incident, filmed by a witness, triggered a wave of uprisings across France.

One year later, on June 27, 2024, in partnership with French media Blast, Index published a detailed reconstruction of the circumstances surrounding the homicide, combining the information from the judicial file with available videos. The investigation helps reconstruct Nahel’s exact position at the moment of the shooting and the positions and actions of the two police officers involved in the homicide.
